The creak! AAAAG! (Brooks)

When my Brooks B67 was new, it had a creak. Greased the heck out of the shackle in the nose, and no more creak.

Poor baby was on the front of a bus (in the rack) during a terrible rainy commute last month. Somehow that deluge started up the creak again.

I've greased the shackle, the frame, the springs even; but can't seem to find the creak!

I'm pretty sure it's not in the base frame, but somewhere in the floating frame.

Any other ideas?

This reminds me of one time when I was at a stoplight with another rider (we were actually turning on opposite directions, but there were no turn lanes...). We were in the front of the line, before a bunch of cars, poised to go, one toe on the ground, clipped in foot at 1:00, focused on the light. He turns to me and says, "I feel like we should be revving our engines!"

(Sorry, it seems like I'm queen of thread drift lately...).

Maybe if you back off the tension in the nose shackle the grease could get in there better?

Something about being in the rain and on the front of a bus for 1 1/2 hrs... must've washed the grease out? The shackle and springs are the only parts of the saddle frame that were exposed.

I need to find a saddle cover big enough to fit over a B67, eh?

Knot, I always carry a good plastic bag! that's all you need.

If it did that to the grease on the saddle it probably also washed out a lot of grease from other parts of your bike. I know the squeaky saddle gets the grease, but check on everything else while you're at it.

I warmed up the grease in my fingers, then smooshed it into the shackle (ball-n-socket joint at the front of the frame). Went for a nice long ride and worked the grease in well.

No more creak.

I gotta get a good sturdy cover for the saddle when I put the bike on a bus rack in the rain.
