    ok really serious question!

    Some years ago (about 9) I suffered from heart palpatations. They gave me a mild tranq and told me to relax. Take up excercise, yoga walking deep breathing etc...I did some major soul searching and got deep into healing myself without drugs. I read books, kept journals, took up walking (later turned into bike riding) and yoga.
    I was able to calm myself down and eventually almost completly rid myself of them. But they still creep in here and there.
    Well this past week they have come back. I don't know if I am just really worried about stuff or what. But I have been watching my coffee intake and getting plenty of sleep. I don't drink much or smoke.
    My dh thinks maybe I should go see the Dr. I just wonder if he is going to just tell me I need to mellow out again. I am conflicted. I have had and am still having a lot going on in my life to worry about. My niece, tax time, work. I just don't know. I think maybe I should go just so the Dr knows what is going on. And it has been 9 years since the last time I went through this like this.
    But I am aware that I am stressing myself out. it's funny when the heart palps happen I swear I am not thinking about the stressful things.

    B, I think you should see a doc. This may be different so it's worth checking. That said, if you want to continue to seek wellness without medication, let him know that, and that you're there to be responsible and rule out other factors.

    Along the lines of not using medication to be well - I have had heart palps occasionally for years. I now attribute them to the same cause as virtually all of my other ills: adrenal stress. I'm combating this in a number of ways, including regular massage, acupuncture, homeopathic, herbal and nutritional remedies, and aromatherapy. In fact, my dear friend, an aromatherapist, mixed up a synergy for me to support my adrenal system. It contains basil, rosemary and geranium. I smell it whenever I feel the acute symptoms, including heart palps, and I do begin to feel calm right away. Just a thought...

    You are so helpful. I have a friend who makes really good soap. And has a bunch of oils she uses I will ask her to make me some.
    I am wondering if I should give it a few more days and see if it is a passing thing.

    The last words my father said before he died were "If I don't feel better I'll go to the doctor next week." It would be funny if it weren't true. If in doubt go to the doctor. He might not help, or he might catch something that saves your life. All you have to lose by going is an hour of your time.

    You mention that you watch your coffee intake. When I was having heart problems my doctor had me cut out caffeine entirely. Now when I do have a little I reallise what a powerful drug it is. Maybe try cutting it right out.

    I agree with Kat on the doctor and the coffee. Please just go see the doctor. If it's nothing, then you'll know. If it's not nothing, then you'll know. Knowledge is powerful, and it will allow you to take action. Not knowing is stressful doesn't help the situation in any way.

    i have about 3 of those a year. My doctor has told me if they get frequent to come back asap. I think you need to see a doctor.

    I think you're answering yourself with your thread title. If you're concerned, you should get it checked out. The last time I had an EKG it was pretty inexpensive (and if your doctor thinks you need more testing, hopefully you have insurance to cover that).

    I get palpitations, but I've had an EKG to identify what kind they are, and a doctor's advice that they're nothing to worry about. Mostly it's food allergies that bring them on.

    I would also encourage you to go back to the doc and seek out some other alternatives. LBTC mentioned acupuncture. This can be very helpful for heart symproms, especially if they are anxiety related. Even if you don't like needles, sometimes a acupuncturist can use other methods of energy balancing including acupressure, herbs or electirical stimulation.

    This is probably not what you have, but I wanted to tell you anyway: a colleague and friend of mine, an extremely fit 63 yr.old who's done long-distance sports his whole life, has had heart palpitations for many years. During exertion his heart would suddenly go into "hyperdrive", and he had trouble getting his pulse down again. Turns out there was some nerve or something "backfiring" and giving his heart too many signals. It was solved by a very short operation where they burned over the offending "signal" (sorry, I wasn't paying attention to the medical details ) and he hasn't had a heart palpitation since. Just FYI.

    Brandi, have your thyroid levels checked. If they are off they can lead to palpitations or irregularities in your heartbeat.

    rj...I have anxiety issues also. Have had a couple of panic attacks, anxiety, worry, etc. Doc told me when the palps started, to sip a glass of ice cold water, and it works every time! Nothing scientific about it...good old distraction makes the palps go away. That, and I do a lot of yoga, and a little meditation, but it's hard to quiet my mind enough for it to do any good. I think that anything that takes your mind off your anxiety will quiet your heart, as long as there's no medical reason for the arrythmia's. JMHO
