I tackled my second century of the season today and it was a rough/tough day on the bike. When the ride started it was a very chilly 36F and the wind was already making itself known to one and all. I fell in the the fast group and we quickly set a workable pace but the wind was fighting us along the way. After the lunch stop the wind became my worst enemy. The pace continued to be brisk but with the strong headwind I dropped off the pace and found myself alone on strange, new roads (I didn't much care for this I will admit). However, I kept plugging along and I don't think I ever got my speed above 14 mph riding into that darn wind. The last 35 miles were so demoralizing for no matter how hard I worked I felt like I was crawling. It was the first time in a long time I wanted to stop, get off my bike and call for a ride but I practice self-control and kept pedaling. I was never so happy to see my car! I logged 104 miles today and average a tough 15.2 mph. I'm beat!
