    Fish Oil

Ok, so my doc recommended introducing fish oil into my diet since I don't eat much fish. I took my first dose this morning and have been burping up fishiness and feeling queasy all day.

Has anyone taken a fish oil supplement and had this? Did it go away? Do I need to persevere or just learn to eat salmon?

My dog gets that with cod liver oil. Parsely helps her. It would probably work on humans too.

I purchase the Omega Fatty Acid 3-6-9 in capsule form. No bad after taste.

    Northstar,
They make a caplet that is coated (i can't remember with what -ecentic??) and you don't have that wicked aftertaste or belching fish problem. It tastes like vanilla to me.
I am never down. I am either up or getting up.

Try taking them with food? I take capsules, and they don't bother me if I take them first thing in the morning with orange juice, then eat something easily digestible afterwards like a sandwich. If I forget and have to swallow them afterwards I think I have more chance of them "coming back to haunt me".

I used to take liquid cod liver oil, which tastes truly revolting, but I found out that drinking a little orange juice first, then swallowing a spoonful of oil, then a lot more orange juice, helped "cut" the taste. Coffee did NOT work, there's some fat in coffee and it increased the taste.

I also take them and have found that even with the enteric coated 3-6-9 caps I get fishy repeats if I take it right after I've eaten. I think maybe my digestive system is all riled up and processes them a before they get into the small intestine. So I definitely recommend taking them right before you eat a meal.

I don't eat much fish either after a food poisoning incident when I was a kid, so that's part of the reason I take them, too.

LPH - I'll have to try the OJ trick, sounds like it works pretty well.

Then there's vegetarian Udo's Choice 3-6-9, actually tastes pretty good even if you're not vegetarian. That's what my sister the acupuncture doctor (not vegetarian herself) recommends. Pour it on cereal (hot or cold) or blend it into smoothies.

I had that problem too, even with the enteric ones that aren't supposed to open until they hit your intestines. I was burping (and then the other end ) nasty fish and it was horrible. I couldn't live with it. So, now I take flax seed capsules. Same omega-3's without the fish. If one bursts in my mouth when I have a hot drink, no bad taste. Check it out.
