.... and Running In the New Year (Jan. 1-7)

Woke up late today (can't imagine why), to beautiful sunshine, low humidity, perfect temperature. Felt like a long run (for me) - 10K, longest I've run since I don't even remember when. Ever, is possible. Nice and slow, I didn't care. Yummy.

4 miles in 27 degree weather and serious wind, but I felt good and strong. I forgot my chapstick, though, and my lips look and feel gross.....
I am never down. I am either up or getting up.

I ran a New Year's Day 10k. It was freezing, 40 mph winds, and huge snow flakes. DD was in the baby jogger, she kept complaining about it "snowin in [her] eyes!" She was a real trooper. Finished in 52 minutes exactly . .. I'm almost positive the course was a little short as I can't run that fast with a tailwind and dry roads.

I'm back in business! - ran a pretty fast 5.5 k yesterday - first run in 2 weeks.

Then 11K base endurance today. The last 1K or so I sped up because boyfriend just couldn't take it anymore, he was running in circles around me and taking a pee in between and still catching up with me.

I ran a MILE yesterday! lol I knew that's not exciting, but I've had plantar fasciitis since Thanksgiving. This was my first run since then. I did it on the treadmill after warming up on the bike. My foot is somewhat sore, but I can walk this morning. That's HUGE. I'm going to try another mile tomorrow. Got my fingers crossed for still being able to do a HIM this summer...

I read this thread for some motivation this morning, kicked my @ss into gear and headed out for a short 5km run on a nearby trail. It didn't feel especially good, but I'm glad I did it.

Yesterday's New Year's Day run was better. I headed out to downtown with a friend to witness the thousand + crazy "polar bear swimmers" that hit the frigid water (6C, i.e. approx 40F?) of English Bay. It was the 88th consecutive year of the event, impressive. Some folks there have been doing it for over 30 years. Anyway, we ran back home from there, about 11 km. He's not much of a runner and did not have proper shoes but with regular walking breaks he made it, in a decent time too. It was a cool run.

I've planned all of my workouts for the next two weeks. I just have to do it, now.

DH has an ipod I can inherit. So not to be too OT here but what type of headphones/ear things work the best for running? (Not total headphones, I know.) What is the best way to carry it? We just swapped out our computer so I need to download all the software again and learn how to use the ipod. I think this might definitely help though! Now I'll have to search for a thread on good running music.
