    Wanted: Short stems and bars

Hey guys, a friend just bought his young son a new bike for christmas, and he is facing the problems many of us face, too long a reach to the brake levers. It came with a longish stem and bars, so we are thinking if we can replace them with a short stem and bars like a salsa poco or ttt eva bar it will work for him until he grows a bit more. Maybe interupter levels would also help. He brought it back to the LBS, but since it was a 2006 closeout they wouldn't swap anything. It broke his budget to just buy the bike, so I am checking around if anyone has any shorty road stems 5-7cm threadless, 36-38cm salsa poco bars, or interupter levers not being used they would be interested in selling. Please PM me if you can help. -e

I do have a Nitto Technomic 5mm stem with only about 6 months use. It's like on this page:

But it's threaded, for a 1" threaded fork. Are you sure that new bike takes a threadless stem?

Triskeliongirl - I believe that I still have the super short stem that originally came on my Isis. Let me look tomorrow, and I'll let you know.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! GLC ended up giving us the original stem from her terry isis (6 cm) (THANK YOU CATHERINE FOR YOUR GENEROSITY), we found him a 36cm salsa poco bar on ebay, and ordered him a shim kit for the shifters, so he is all set.
