I surpassed my mileage goal with 5,175 miles for the year. I was hoping for 4,500 initially and then upped it to 5,000. Since I live in the flatlands, I didn't have a climbing goal, but I ended up doing a number of event rides: I did my first century in May at the Horsey Hundred. I did the Ride Across Indiana in July and finished within the top third of about 1100 riders. And I did the Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee in September, which was my first week-long tour. For my first full year of riding, I'm more than pleased.
Perhaps most importantly, I made a lot of friends, learned to ride safely and efficiently in a paceline, led a ride for my local club, gutted it out on some rides that were faster and/or harder than I thought I could handle, and gained a ton of confidence in myself. Now I'm ready for 2008!
Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Continue to learn. Appreciate your friends. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.
