Talking Portland in December - thanks for the advice!

    Hello everybody!

I just wanted to thank you for all of the good advice you gave me for my trip to Portland this month. I just wish I had been able to skip out of the conference so I could see more of the area! I did have one very nice view - on the train to the Convention Center one morning, I saw Mount Hood in the far distance. It was illuminated by the rising sun, and glowing a rich pink. Beautiful. I'm glad I wasn't looking out the other window!

I found Stumptown Coffee, and managed to stop there every morning on my way to the conference. Thanks so much for that tip. (What would I do without my morning coffee???)

Powell's was amazing - I wish we had one here! I ended up going there twice during the week... bought my husband his holiday present (a book about his favorite car), and went back at the end of the week to get some 'airplane books' for my trip home. They took my used books (reading material is essential for me!) in exchange - a double bonus - I used the credit to buy something new, and didn't have the guilt of abandoning books in my hotel room.

Oh - I can see that this could go on forever, so I will stop. My best meal of the week, though - another TE recommendation - Masu.

THANK YOU!!! You made the whole trip much more fun... and tasty.
If you're happy and you know it - wag your tail!

I have to add to this!

I have just spent three days in Portland and we had a blast.

Powell's was magnificent, as expected (more, actually).

The weather was really, well, wet. It rained all the time. No different from Vancouver.

We had splendid coffees at Stumptown (they just opened one on Seattle's 12th avenue near Madison, as we found out on our way back to Vancouver BC).

We had great breakfast at Bijou Cafe (found thanks to the Stumptown recommendation, because it's next door to it).

We had WONDERFUL dinner at Genoa (although that recommendation came from another non-TE friend).

We touched a lot of wool at the Icebreaker store. (My husband is also a woolweenie.)

Wonderful long walk to Nob Hill.

Fantastic runs on the Wildwood Trail and on the river's esplanades.

Happy campers. Thanks for all the recommendations! We'll be back in Portland sometime soon.
