    Total Knee Replacement

I had a TKR on Oct 19th. I am doing wonderfully in PT and I'm on the stationay bike for 15 minutes 4-5 days a week and the same with the treadmill. It's winter here in NJ so I'm not in a hurry to bike outside, but we are going to Florida in Feb.
Wondered if there were others out there with the same TKR and how long before they were back to cycling.

    know cyclist with total hip

I know a PanMass Challenge rider that had a total hip done last February. He started on a stationary in late March, and was able to ride the first day of PMC the first week-end in August. He did just do the 80 mile route. He was very careful starting out with outdoor riding, I think he waited until May. At first he rode a step-through frame. The big thing is to be sure you don't fall.
February might be a little early, ask your ortho.

I'm interested in this, although I have not been through this but my partner may need to consider this option...

My ma-in-law has had hers done but she doesn't ride a bike.

But I am interested in knowing - after a TKR, can one get back to intense riding, like racing or hill climbing?

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
    "I will try again tomorrow".

I'm interested too - my mom just had both her knees done in November. She's not a rider either, but she bands birds, so she climbs trees and runs short distances on uneven terrain. Her PT has released her to do that when the season comes back around!

I really admire your mom, Oakleaf.

My husband is faced with the prospect of knees AND hips being replaced at some point in his life. His knees--may avoid replacement, but his hips are forecast to fail before the age of 60 (he's 44). I want him to learn to love to ride as much as I do just so he can prolong his somewhat good health as long as possible. I like hearing about riders who've been there and are still riding.

    Karen
