mounting bike blender bike rack - help!

My DH gave me a bikeblender for christmas!
It's a blender that is driven by bike power, similar in design to the old fashioned generators with a wheely thing that goes along the side of the tire.
it is mounted on a bike rack. Herein lies my problem. The rack is much too narrow for the axle of my wheel. Do people routinely just bend these things until they fit?
it looks like a normal albeit heavy duty bike rack.
it came with all these stupid screws too! (two different kinds, flat head and phillips head. )
between the two of us we're clueless.
    THanks

for six tanks of gas you could have bought a bike.

These racks generally spread out fine. Just carefully attach one side - only put screws in some (not all the way). With one side secure, you should be able to pull it easily to the other side.
