    darning jerseys?

Quick question. I don't sew and don't have a sewing machine. This winter I've taken advantage of off-season sales and gotten a few Castelli jerseys for the summer. I just noticed that one of them has a small hole along the side seam (maybe an inch long, looks like the fabric pulled out of the flatlock seam). No idea how it happened, or if it was a manufacturing flaw (I've tried on the jersey a few times but haven't worn it). It's really pretty and soft, and I don't want the jersey to be ruined. Could I get something like this fixed by a seamstress? Other ideas???

    Where'd you buy it?
Can you take it back to the store and work with the owner?
My LBS has worked with his Descente rep when we've had some breakage issues with their clothing - esp. their crummy zippers!

Otherwise, yeah...I'd recommend talking to a seamstress and see if they can do anything for it....

If it's just a matter of the seam having pulled apart by an inch or two, then it sounds like a pretty simple fix---something a seamstress could do in a few minutes for a few bucks. Or do you have a friend who sews? He or she could probably fix it either by hand or on a machine.

If the hole is at a place in the seam that will get a lot of stretching, be sure to use a thread that has a little give to it so you don't break the new stitching when you pull the jersey on or off. A good seamstress should be able to select the right thread and tension just by looking at the hole and tugging a bit of the intact seam on either side of it.

    Good luck!
