I have a Ruby Pro, 2007. I am not sure what changes they made for 2008 in the bike, but I LOVE my Ruby. I went from a Specialized 2005 Dolce Comp which I really had no complaints about, but I just wanted a smoother ride and the Ruby gives me that and have seem to have better control over the bike in areas of rougher terrain. The bike is quick and responsive.

I cannot comment on the Trek as I never rode one.

I'll be watching this thread - I've been looking at the Ruby Expert or Pro and the Madone 5.2. Sad to say, there aren't any in my size so I can ride one...

It came down to fit for me. The Ruby is more "upright," whereas the Madone is more "aggressive." Depends on what feels best for you. Good luck!

    that is my problem
There are none to test ride in my area.
They changed the madones and ruby's
for 08. Ruby's now have an S works frame.
Just wondering about the seat post on the new madone?

One of my training partners who also mountain bikes (on a different bike of course) has just bought a Ruby Expert '08. The only adjustment she had to request was shims as she is a little over 5' and her hands are not huge.

She loves it... absolutely loves it... she is comfortable with the way it corners, handles downhill and on downhill corners... and the first thing she spoke about was how responsive the Ruby was... on flats, uphill and downhill. She is totally enamoured...

And I must say it is a beuatiful looking bike - it is parked in the office most days and I usually slow for a "quick perve" as I go by - even though I would never have one myself as I have an ideal bike-make for me... but boy, is that Ruby Elite drool-worthy in the looks department.

Sorry... can't comment on the madone...

Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying,
    "I will try again tomorrow".
