Is the 41 cm center-to-center, or is it outside measurement?

(Knot hopes that's the outside measurement.... )

It is marked 41. Measuring it is rather vague, as the Noodle bars have drops that curve from the hoods to the drops as they go on down: http://www.tullios.com/Nitto.htm
Where the hoods would go is a little narrower than where the drop ends are.
Depending on exactly where you measure you could get 40, 41, 42. If it helps, my shoulders are exactly 17" from outer edge of shoulder to other outside edge, and the bars fit me fine. Do you want me to measure the bars at a certain spot?- I will try if you like.

Hmmmm... My shoulders are 15 inches/38 cm wide. Problem I'm having with the 42 cm Bell Laps on my Surly is that the bars are just too wide.

I'm afraid the Noodles would also be too wide, but thank you for offering to measure.

    They sure are pretty bars.

Wow, and I thought *I* had narrow shoulders! Did you measure from your OUTER edges of shoulders?

LisaSH - Acromnion to acromion. Got 38cm today doing it myself and got 38 cm in the past when someone else did it. I've got narrow shoulders but very long arms. Finding shirts that fit is quite a chore sometimes.

I will say that I'm surprised at how much impact a little bar width difference makes: I had a 42 cm Cinelli that came with one bike, and was surprisingly awkward for me. (switched for a 40cm Salsa short-n-shallow cuz the store was out of 38cm) My 42 Salsa Bell Laps that came on my Surly aren't too bad, but on longer rides or during tricky hold-the-line situations with traffic they also feel awkward. My LBS trimmed down the flat bars on my Kona Dew and Kona Smoke.

Mostly, I think I'm just fussy....
(I don't recall being this fussy when I was younger. What gives?)

But those Nittos sure are pretty! Very classy.

I have the 41 cm nitto noodle on both my bikes, so I took some measurements for you knot. If I measure center to center from the center of each brake hood, I get 40 cm, and if I measure center to center from the ends of the drops, I get 42 cm. That means your 'neutral position' is 40 cm. I used to ride a salsa poco 40 cm, and while I worried about them being a little bigger, the neutral position is the same. I like them more than the salsa poco cuz the bend is smooth, the ergo bumps on the salsa poco didn't hit my hands right, and the shallow ramp on the nitto noodle lets me place the drops nearly parallel to the ground and still have the tops be fairly flat. To do that on the salsa poco I had to turn them up, but that made the drops uncomfortable. But note, the reach is very different on the two bars, reach is longer on the noodle than salsa poco, by about 2 cm. I like it, cuz it gives me an extra hand position behind the hoods, but if your stem was sized for a short reach bar you may need a new stem. FYI, here are my bikes with nitto noodle:
