Aug 20-26 Miles and Miles (or km!)

    I'm not usually a thread-starter...... so I'll practice!

    This week-
Sun: No miles- did 10 on Sat, plus I was a cold and wet Swim Angel volunteer for the Seattle Danskin Tri- 2+ hours in Lake Washington was enough!
Mon: 3 easy, then some goofing off on the bike trying to find the right saddle position.

    Tues: Easy 5 miles

Today: Tempo, 6.5 at 7:47 pace, not bad for a student who never sleeps. (I sure hope all this studying gets me into PT school!)

Decision: Seattle Half or Whole marathon? (In November) Hmmmmm. Oh yeah, and I need to train some for the MS150 coming up- running crosses over, right?

Monday I ran 4 miles on the treadmill. I felt pretty good and had a pretty good average overall.

Tuesday I had 10 miles scheduled... but only made it to 7 miles (on the treadmill) before I started getting some accute pain shooting deep into my calf. I decided best to call it quits before I did some serious damage.

Thursday (today) I should have run 6 miles, but I still have some pain from Tuesday, so I'm pushing it to Friday. I might only make it around 4 miles though, we will see how it goes pain wise.

Friday, I should run 6 miles we will see what happens.

Saturday is my 65 mile bike ride.

Sunday I have a sprint triathlon... 300 yard swim/12 mile bike/3 mile run. Very short and easy. My goal is to try to get in and out of transition quick! Oh, and I have seated myself pretty far up with my swim time (4:45 for 300 yards)... so I also hope to NOT make a fool of myself being one of the front people in the water.

3 miles on the treadmill today, for the first time in... who knows how long! My ankle felt great. I had only some minor knee discomfort but nothing that would even closely resemble pain and I think it's as much from them being out of use as anything. So yay for non-injury! Now for half-marathon training for early next spring....

What's that big bright orb in the sky?

    The sun, that's what!

The weather has been miserable here for all of July and August, I finished my trail run on Sunday afternoon and wished I had a hat to put on, it was 13C, in August! The sun has made a reappearance in the last couple of days to remind us all what summer is so it was a very warm 4 easy miles yesterday - glad I remembered to blow the cobwebs off my sunglasses. Rest day today then a trail run and some biking over the weekend, no firm plans as its a public holiday on Monday that I completely forgot about so an extra day to do stuff and the weather may stay good, but this is the UK so best not get too hopeful

On tuesday I did 1/2 mile on the treadmill - sounds like nothing but I did that after swimming and after the brief run, I went to a spin class. I was killing time but it counts I think!

On wednesday, I increased my run by a mile. I walked as I needed to and was sluggish. I'm to about 3.5 miles now on an average day.

This morning I did the increased 3.5 route and ran just about everything! I had to walk on one of the hills but I finished feeling really great! My average is about an 11 minute mile (counting the walking) which isn't great but I think it's getting better. My max heart rate was 175, my average was 145.

What I'm loving is I can now breathe well/slowly even when my heart rate gets up there. I can get in a comfy pace and not feel so tired or like I'm working. I can also speed up then slow down and recover while running instead of walking. These are probably common things for people but it's a huge thing for me!

The run in my tri is 4 miles. Being that it's in almost two weeks, I know I will do some walking. But it's getting better!

    Good job!

michelem, go to Fleet Feet and get evaluated & fitted for shoes. Shoes are very individual...and if Fleet Feet has its same policy, you can return the shoes within 30 days for exchange even if you've worn them. Can't beat it. And they are great folks. I used to frequent the one on J Street (I think that's where it is) in Sacramento. There's one in Davis, one in Carmichael (or thereabouts...) and I'm sure several in the bay area. Big thumbs up.

Leseeeee....I did another long run this morning (which I'm hoping will be defined as a "midrange" run here in a couple of weeks) up in the Wasatch Mountains...same loop I did weekend before last (with 4000' of climbing), less Achilles-attachment-to-calf pain but still some. My Achilles-calf problems seem to diminish or disappear if I don't ride the two days before I do a run with big climbing and if I do a recovery run the day following the big run. So I think I'll do an easy run tomorrow before I go up to Park City to cheer Shiraz on in her half mary and then I have another long-ish run/walk planned with a friend for Sunday.

I've been asked to pace a gentleman for the Wasatch Front 100 weekend after next. I was flattered that someone thought I would be a good pacer. Sounds like I'll probably do about a 12-mile leg in the middle of the night and maybe another shorter leg if he needs more people. I think it will be an interesting experience!

    Run on!

    Yellow,

Thanks for the Fleet Feet recommendation - looks like the closest to me is Fair Oaks - I'll have to check them out!

    You ladies are impressive!

I was going to run yesterday, but the heat flattened me. So I passed. Today I got out a little earlier and was able to do a 1 hr and 15 min trail run. It was already hot enough, and it's so dry that I sucked down the full 25 oz of sports drink and water that I was carrying long before I got home.

THEN I did an hour hike with the dogs. My legs are tired and I still have to go to work in 2 hours. Ugh.

    YES!

I rocked it yesterday! I ran 6 miles... outside... and I RAN the entire way with a 10:30 minute mile.

It was 93 degrees and around 6:00 PM, so I was worried the heat would kill me again... but I had my best run in months! I was so shocked!

So, it was a great run!

    Hi Ladies!
I haven't posting in awhile so I thought I would catch up first by saying thankyou Yellow for coming to see me and my friends in Park City. We had a great time visiting over lunch!! You are a delight!

My girlfriends and I had a great run in the Park City half marathon. The weather a perfect. It was a chilly 40+ degrees to start and than warmed up. What a beautiful course! It is a well groomed trail that has a slight increase in elevation over 7 miles and than a nice down (not hard on the knees at all). I did notice the increase in elevation from 4500 in my home town to 6400 in beautiful Park City but the scenery was well worth it.

I used the run as a training long run with a finish time of 2:10. We stopped and took pictures and enjoyed the company and views. I hope to have a faster time next Saturday in the Pocatello half marathon.

Here is the web sites for both runs for your future plans. They are both great runs.http://www.pcmarathon.com/ and http://www.pocatellomarathon.com/

It was great time with girlfriends, especially seeing Yellow !
