Anybody riding El Tour de Tucson?

I'm thinking about doing it this year. It's 109 miles around the city. Most of our entries (7,000 total) are from out of town! The cops stop all traffic, the whole city comes out & cheers you on & the sag stops are plentiful - some sag people have contests around who has the best one. The boyscouts will even hold your bike while you're in the porta-potty! Weather is usually 45 degrees at start (7AM) and 75 degrees by mid afternoon. There are options for shorter mileage. Here's the website: http://www.pbaa.com/Home.html#ElTour

I was going to punk out, but reading about one of our sisters on a hybrid doing a century shamed me into it!

    Hey Dogmama!

I got to tell you... back in 2000 when I did the Boston-New York AidsRide, there were as many hybrids & mtn bikes as there were road bikes. 295 miles over 3 days... and they weren't having any trouble on the Connecticut hills (like me).

Amazing. I can't imagine peddling a 30 pound bike 100 miles in an upright position. My only problem with El Tour (other than the training time that I do not have - posted in different topic) is that they won't allow aerobars. I'm a 50 year old business manager who has used a computer for 20 years and has carpel tunnel - so I need the aeros to take the weight & vibration off of my hands.

I only get into my aeros when I'm alone. So, I don't endanger anybody else or myself. But, I guess it's some kind of racing rule, so they apply it to El Tour also. Bummer

    Ridin'!

I'm doing the Tour de Tucson with TNT. I'm doing to celebrate my 50th birthday... and I raised almost $6000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I'm not thrilled with the training they do... not enough group rides and most of their group is too fast for me so I've been trying to train on my own. My riding goal is simple ... to finish!
