    Would You Believe It

New neighbour came round and we put one of the pedals from my son's old mountain bike on her bike - the bikes are very similar. Her's is a mountain bike - a girls bike by the look of it, low end. We got the pedal sort of on with a bit of a struggle. It wouldn't tighten properly but seemed to be on tight enough. We weren't going far - about 5 miles round trip. Anyway, off we set, beautiful summer evening, not too warm, not too cool. After all the rain we've had it was really nice to be out for a leisurely ride. Really enjoying ourselves when half-way there the pedal fell off again and we couldn't get the blasted thing back on

We walked the bikes all the way home again. I suggested she go and have a look at the second-hand bike stall where I got my two Raleighs. She'll pick up a reasonably good road bike there for probably less than it would cost to repair the mountain bike. It looks to me like it needs new cranks as well as pedals. Not really worth repairing I don't think.

Anyway we're going out again tomorrow with her riding my Raleigh. She's the same height as me so she should be fine with that. The weather forecast's good for tomorrow so something to look forward to.

And that's exactly why everyone needs two bikes

-Here's a totally off the wall question for you. I'm reminded of it because you said 'second hand bike stall'.
On the old TV show Eastenders, Kat and her sisters (I think) had a stall where they sold clothing. There were a lot of various stalls.
So what I want to know is, is this a common thing in England? Could you expect to find an area like this in most towns?

Yes. Most towns have a market - some indoor and some outdoor.

The market where I got my Raleigh is an indoor one, only about 3 miles from where I live. I think my neighbour and I will be going up there this Sunday. We'll walk up and cycle back as I'm sure we'll find a suitable bargain bike for her there.
