    July 17 rides

I went on part of new rail trail before it opened (a real scofflaw ), and then saw one of my biking friend out for a run (he does tris) before going down Day creek. had to add a little extra to the ride, as a Train crew was blocking the street I take back.

I went for an easy 20 mile ride today. No way was I going to get caught riding in triple digits like yesterday. Passing a turkey w/ 11 chicks was the highlight of my ride.

Got in 43 miles starting at mid-morning. Every other week, I get to work at home, so I can squeeze in a good ride [one of the few good things about my current assignment]. Today's was a nice one--it didn't feel as hot/humid as yesterday's ride but I ended up downing a couple bottles of fluid. Got in some good hammer intervals. By the end, I was toast.

Today I went mountain biking and had an awesome (muddy) time with a friend. Yesterday I did a 45 mile road ride with another friend.

    I just love summers!

definitely overheated today! Went out for an easy 30 since I did 50 yesterday, the plan was a high cadence ride. About 20 miles into it(so part way home) I had already gone through both of my water bottles and was extremely overheated. They each had an electrolyte energy drink in them. So I stopped at a Subway to refill my bottles. The soda machine was in the seating area, so I mixed one of my bottles with some lemonade( i felt bad, I didn't pay for it...but I had no money and felt like I needed some sugar). I ended up sitting down outside for a few minutes until I didn't feel like I was going to keel over!!(so odd.. I have never overheated like this). By the time I turned into my neighborhood I had finished both of these water bottles.

All in all I got in 32 miles, rode the majority of it at a high cadence, I had 3 or so miles after I refilled the water bottles where I sat a few mph below where I wanted to, but then I seemed to get a 2nd burst of energy.

so not the best ride unfortunately, but still pretty much did what I planned on doing.

I didn't ride today, but I did do 45 minutes of core work, weights, stretching with Mr. Street on DVD. Spent part of the afternoon at the vet with my cat. She is getting old...
Tomorrow I will be riding with PlushRide (Renee), who I haven't seen in a year. We are meeting at 7 to avoid the rain, heat, humidity so i guess I have to get to bed at a decent hour. We plan on doing 30-35 miles.
I am leaving Thursday for our annual cycling trip to the Berkshires. The weather looks like it will be terrible and I am bummed. Rain is definite for most of Friday and maybe even part of Saturday. Hopefully,it will be the intermittent kind of rain or start late in the day. Not that there isn't a lot of other stuff to do there; we already have our 4 dinner reservations and Tanglewood tickets.

I so know the feeling. My 31.5 miler was like that last week. I think it got up to 100 that day. I was toasted on the way back, but I pushed through and did what I set out to do ... at a much lower speed than anticipated, but I did it. It was heavenly walking into the air conditioned house. I just plopped down on the family room floor for lack of energy to do ANYTHING for a while. My dogs just stared at me looking very confused. Eventually I got up, through water in my face, turned the ceiling fan on high and laid back on the floor for a while.

Here's to getting up when it's still cool out to go for a ride! (Getting up early is not one of my gifts!)
