    Fun light giveaway

Our city has an organization for promoting biking & walking, and we asked them to purchase some lights that we could give away to cyclists without lights. Last night we took five sets and headed out in the dark.

I had so much fun trying to spot the cyclists without lights and chase them down. The first guy had a look of panic on his face as we surrounded him. Later one guy said "He seemed pretty happy to get free lights," but I said "I think he was just relieved we didn't mug him or arrest him."

Our 3 bikes were lit up like christmas trees, because we each have a variety of blinkies & whatnot. All the drunks downtown sitting on the outside pavilions thought we were cops on bikes, because of our flashing lights.

An old lady said what nice lights we had, as we went past.

In order to be less intimidating we had the smallest woman approach the 2nd cyclist to receive free lights, but she was just as startled at being accosted. It didn't seem to matter who made the initial contact.

All in all we had a great time. I'm not much for warm fuzzies about giving stuff away, but I loved biking around town at night, spotting cyclists and best of all chasing them down. We have another 5 to give away and I am looking forward to the next night!

Very cheap. Planet Bike Blinky Safety set, one pack contains a white front and a red rear light, for $10. The city bought 10 of these. I think they got a discount.

That's pretty cool! I would've loved chasing down cyclists at night to give them a gift, but I would have hated to be chased down (would've scared the bejeebers out of me).
