We're back from Maine and have some pics to share.
We rented brand new (but clunky) Mountain Bikes. We've decided that Road Bikes will remain our focus for nowWeather was volatile, but we still got in about 90+ miles of riding in five days.

Silver cresting the pinnacle of Evans Notch in the White Mountain National Forest. Eight miles of straight climbing with no rest - a first for us, the last two at 10%+ grade. This same night, this road washed out in a deluge!

Beautiful scenery! Was it as cool as it looks, temperature-wise? Must have been a great vacation. I'll have to put Maine on that "must see" list.

Mr. S...what part of Maine was this? It's gorgeous! I have family in Scarborough/Old Town near Old Orchard Beach, and my dad stays in a veterans' hospital just outside Portland.

Yes, it was chilly. 50's in the evening, generally low 70's in the day. A couple days it never got above mid-60's! The lack of humidity was unusual for this southern boy.
The Garmon 305 got good use. I wouldn't have believed the grade without it! I'm absolutely hooked on that little toy.
Bethel is at the foot of the White Mountains, about 1.5 hours Northwest of Portland, 3 hours from Boston. Lots of cycling, canoeing/kayaking, running, hiking, skiing, etc. A REMARKABLE little town and totally uncommercialized by it's proximity to the ski slopes. way cool! it looks soooo pretty there. I would like to go to main some day. We need a job there during the fall!
