    Touring across the US...

Am I the only one who is not doing this this summer? Ok, I know that's not likely, but it seems there are an awful lot of people at it right now!

While we were camping in in the northern LP of Michigan last week, we ran into a guy with his bike totally loaded down. He had started in Portland and was working his way to Maine. His plan was to get there about the time fall colors would be at their peak. He was taking his sweet time. Then he told us that he had ridden across the US a few times, usually with his best friend, who passed away four days into the last ride they started. And this time, he was carrying his friends ashes with him at the request of his friend's wife, to "bring him home."

It was such a beautiful story. I wanted to sit and talk to the guy all day!

Then, while out on a ride in Minneapolis today, I bumped into four Germans who had begun in Seattle and were riding all the way to New York. I'm so jealous! Someday, right?

"I rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a bike. It gives her a feeling of self-reliance and independence the moment she takes her seat; and away she goes, the picture of untrammelled womanhood."

    Some day sure....
I saw a guy with a Swiss flag-sticker on his bike and panniers and all loaded up today and it took me back 25+ years.
And also said to myself " Someday again, right..."

we've seen some people doing it too. But when we see them, they're just starting and we wonder how far they'll get!
