So I am sitting in a lodge in the mountains overlooking the lake that we swam in yesterday. The sun is just up over the mountains and a beautiful breeze is blowing...not too shabby. I just need some coffee, but alas, breakfast is not served for 30 more mins.
OK, I will try to keep it short. I did not think it could be harder than race #1. Wrong.
Swim-1000 yards out and back in a lake. Rough mass start.
Time 18:22. I was very happy. Third female out of the water, somewhere in top 12 out of the water overall.
Bike 10 miles, very technical singletrack mixed with crosscountry ski trails. So rough and rocky, mixed with slow and sloggy. Two girls blew by me...more power to them. Got off my bike in 4th pace for women. Good ride.
Time 1:12 mins.
Run 5 miles-lots of big long hills and downhills which are tough on the legs. It was a slog. I felt good for the first 25 mins and then....blammo. I did not want to walk, but I had to walk some of the hills. The other folks on the course with me were walking them too. It was really slow. I was a bit disappointed in myself, but the overall vibe was that the run course sucked.
Time 55 mins (blech)
Overall Time 2:32
5th female overall, 1st in age group.
Great post race party...there were some pro's here and we had lunch with one, not knowing he was a pro, very cool. Got some tips. And we met really nice people. DH gave a girl a chain off his bike when hers broke and then hung with her DH during the race. We have invites to visit them ,and an invite from the race promoters to come visit them.
So I need to work on my hills running off the bike and work on my nutrition. I think that contributed to my bad run. Tough to drink on the bike and eat gels when the terrain is that rough.
