    Down to the wire!

    So, having registered for my first tri (Philly Sprint Insurance Tri, June 23) a while back, I went into training ecstasy. I didn't think I'd enjoyed it so much. I filled every hour to the brim with training, to the point I was possibly on the brink of overtraining. But I loved it. After all, it gave me something to do to take my mind off of The Boy having moved off to Colorado for 8 months for a temporary job assignment (after I had just moved in with him months prior).

    Maybe I thought that if I trained hard enough, that 8 months would fly by. And it did, because The Boy came home a week or so ago, and now the prospect of the Tri is looming in the upcoming weeks.

    Life has begun to come back now, the family affairs and the housework blues and the newly engaged list of things to do and people to see, and well, training has taken a bit of a back seat.

    It took me a bit by surprise, but I realized a few weeks ago that I hadn't run in almost a month! Eek! I had been feeling so strong about this tri, and perhaps because the distances aren't too out of my range I felt like I could slack off a bit. Which isn't good.

    But now I'm stressing, and starting running again, and doing a bit of swimming and cycling, and we'll see how it goes!

    Yesterday I did a brick with The Boy. 16 miles on the bike followed by a 2 mile run. I felt okay, until about mile 1.5 of the run. I think if it was race day I could have pushed through and run the 5K.

    This Friday I have my longest run ever scheduled, a 5-miler after work which should be... interesting. And I racked up 15 miles towards my June-August 100-mile running challenge, so I'm off to a good start there. Last swim class of the season is tonight, and then I get my weeks back to cycle.

    There really is no point to this rambling post, but just to say that thanks everyone for posting their race reports, I need to get in The Zone again and am looking forward to putting on my warpaint on June 23!

    Whoo hoo KimmyT - Great job on commiting to it and getting back in the saddle.

    Glad to hear "The Boy" is home and life is doing normal things but it really does cut into training time.

    Sounds like you are doing some great bricks - that is what I really need to step the pace up on - I had done them but obviously not enough or long enough ones. NOW it will be longer rides and longer runs and at least 1 per week. Live and learn

    I found that Tri's are very logistically interesting, lot's of things to plan and organize. I definately recommend doing a mini tri at least a week prior to the event. That is probably the single most important thing I did to make sure everything worked and to get the transitions sorted out.

    Is your tri an open water swim?

    Life is quieter when the boys are not around - LOL. Mine is gone until the middle of next month and, hmm, I'm using the time to train for a triathlon. Best of luck with the training and I hope you have a great race!

    I'm glad you have your "boy" back! That's a good brick if you haven't been running lately. If you do the 5 miler this week I bet the next brick (or the tri if you don't have time for another brick) will be much better. Do you have a time goal for the tri, or are you doing it just for fun? Sometimes life gets in the way of doing the things we'd rather be doing. But for me training time is "me" time, as in, it helps keep me sane and happy. Can you push some other things aside this week to focus on training more? Good luck juggling it all. Just remember, you are one person and can only accomplish the work of one person.

    I'm glad the boy's back too though I know what you mean...when it was just me, I could train at all odd hours and not worry about infringing on together time.

    You can do it though

    I got married in November so I know the whole planning/engagement thing.

    Honestly, you trained when it was most important so I doubt if you lost much. I bet you are so excited and I am sure the tri will go well!

    Ditto on the good news of the boy returning! Like teigyr said, you've got a good, solid base so you shouldn't have lost too much in your off time. You're right on track for your race in a week and a half, and you'll have such a great time!!!! Anything you can do between now and then is a good thing- so keep at it girlie!!
