    June 3rd Rides

I decided to take the Giro out for a ride this morning. I've not really riden my recumbent since last fall. I've had her out for a couple of quick spins (less than 10 miles). Today's route was the same as yesterdays - flat with rolling hills. I felt pretty darn strong on my Giro though a lot slower, only averaged 14.64 mph today Since I left early the roads were pretty quiet and things were just starting to wake up as I passed by. The wind did pick up the last 5miles or so and of course it was a headwind

Bikes are parked in the garage and now it is time to get ready for the major home improvement week which awaits. My dad should be here shortly at which point we begin to work. I guess if I want to ride at all during the week I'll have to be up at the crack of dawn and on the road shortly after the sun breaks the horizon for my dad will want to start work as soon as the basement repair guys appear at my door each morning. So much to do, so little time - I'm already tired!

I had a nice recovery ride. Yesterdays hills really beat me up, but today the club did a nice fast jaunt in the farm country. Only 33 miles, but at least we finished before the sun was too high. It is starting to get hot in south texas.........

Previewed the Owensboro Ky tricourse. about 22 miles. hillier than we expected, lots of "turnarounds " and gravel on the road. We averaged about 16.8 mph. Weather was marvelous

Did a pleasant 25 mile ride after breakfast with DH.
Thunderstorms threatened, but it only rained on us a medium amount part of the time- we got wet but not soaked. At least it was cool! We stopped at one point when it got dark and rainy so I could take off my now useless glasses, and I put a flashing blinkie on the back of DH's saddlbag. I had my neon safety yellow vest on, so I wasn't worried about being seen. We were glad to squeeze this ride in today because the forecast calls for HEAVY rain over the next 2-3 days.

Left at 7 a.m. for a 20.65 mile ride by myself as DH has to work today. Did a hill and got up it a little faster than last time.
75 degrees when I left and 87 upon my return. It heats up fast around here.

Yay! After three or four weeks of no riding, we did a 34 mile tandem ride that included Juanita Hill, first time we'd done this hill (long one) on the tandem. Hurray! And first ride with Quattros instead of Frogs. So far so good, except it'll take me a little while to get entry position automatic, since it's really different from where you start a Frog entry.

I rode over to St. Paul (7 miles) to watch the Capitol Crits. It was a beautiful course where you can see the whole thing from the Capitol steps, and yet there were only about 100 people watching the races. For a city with sooo many people who like to ride bikes, it was a sad turnout for a fun spectating event.

I witnessed a really nasty looking crash right in front of where I was sitting, when one of the cat 1/2 men crashed into a barrier and caused a bit of a pileup. I couldn't look, and the sound was horrific, but nobody had to leave in the ambulance, and I think the worst injury was a broken collarbone.

Then it cleared up a bit so I took the long way home, making it a total of about 30 miles.

I'm never trusting the forecast again. It called for rain all day yesterday and today, and both days I managed to get in a 30 mile ride without getting wet.
