Tour de Pierce

Hey all, I've signed myself and Mr. East Hill up for the Tour de Pierce on the 24th June (that's a Sunday). We'll be doing the 50 mile course.

Hey hey hey . . . I just checked out the web site. It looks like it will be a fun ride! I think hubby and I will do it. I'll see what he thinks tonight when I bring it up at dinner! I'm sure he'll do it with me!

d'oh, DH is taking velodrome lessons that day. I'll check it out though and maybe go on my own? I could then meet him at Marymoor later (his lesson is 1-5pm). Do you know anything about the course? Is it nice? Hmmmm.....I'm tempted!

Got a web page link? I'm assuming it's Pierce county, huh? I'm down in Thurston, but that's not toooo far.

I'm still at a point where my longest distance was something not much over twenty miles, but if they have a shortish loop, like 30 miles...I may be up for it!

Hm...at the least, I could do the 30 miler, a bit on the slowly side! I'll have to check back on this thread in a couple of weeks...

I'll hope to see at least a few of you there. I'm thinking about bringing a 'sandwich' type sign to let everyone know that 'this is the place' to meet...

Well, even though it was quite wet most of the ride, Mr. East Hill and I made it through the 50 mile version--although by the time we account for the wrong turns, it was more like 51+ miles .

We got started quite early, leaving at 8.05 am. We began by following a group of Boy Scouts who were intent on getting a merit badge out of the ride. At least one of them finished before we did, but I never saw the rest of them after leaving them in the (virtual) dust after a few miles.

My very understanding spouse, who was very pleased to make it to the first rest stop. He was riding his Trek 4300 MTB...



Nothing like a lahar warning to remind one that one is in an interesting geological location!

It took us around 4+ hours to get all around the course. We were joined at one point by a Puyallup Bike Police officer, then lost him at the second rest stop (for the 50 miler people). We had a great time, even if it was wet. I need to work on convincing my husband that his road bike would be a bit faster, but he feels more comfortable on the MTB, especially in wet conditions.
