    Cycling in Las Vegas Area

We're going out to Vegas for four days and I was thinking about maybe renting a road bike and going out for a ride one of the days.

Even though this is a family vacation, (we're taking our daughter for her 21st birthday), I think they could find plenty to do without me for a few hours.

Does anyone have experience with Las Vegas Cyclery or McGhie's in Blue Diamond? They both have rentals and also do day trips ... or are there nice routes that I could do on my own from either location? I'm just looking for something scenic, probably around 30 miles or so, and not exceptionally challenging, since I will be on vacation after all.

I've also heard good things about Escape the City Streets - they have rentals and will pick you up at your hotel. DH used them to do an MTB ride in Red Rock Canyon a number of years ago and had a blast. They aslo do road bikes.

Have fun - I LOVE Vegas!

We rented road bikes a few miles down a road from Red Rock Canyon. I forget the name of the shop but they were very good. We reserved the bikes before we left for Vegas. I brought my own pedals because I do not use spd's.

The road to Red Rock Canyon is beautiful. Red Rock is major hills but worth the ride. You can also continue on that road past Red Rock, although we didn't.

Just be sure to check your tires. They did not fill up my husbands tires and he could not understand why he was struggling. In fact he did not even go through Red Rock. As he was waiting for me and my brother that is when he noticed his tires were very low on air.

Other than that, it is worth it to rent a bike!!!

My cousin, who lives there and rides a ton, recommended Pro Cyclery to me. They're the ones who run the Rage in the Sage, so they know roads and bike routes, too.

Thanks for all the input. I'll check out your suggestions. The photos on the websites definitely make it look like it would be a gorgeous ride.
