No riding here; we are having a BAD thunder/rain storm with lots of wind and tornado warnings. The lightening was so bad when I left work, i was afraid to run to my car (I had an appointment to go to). Looks like any ROS will be cancelled.
Yesterday I had my worst commute. In the AM it was humid and about 54. I just felt tired and my time was 2-3 minutes slower than last week. I felt like I had to keep slowing. Then it started raining; not hard, but thankfully at the last minute i had put on my rain jacket. I was freezing all day and then I got a headache, when i realized it was all of the pollen I had breathed in. By the time I had to leave, the temp. had gone up to 80, but it was still humid. My time was the same as in the AM, although the commute home is a bit longer (just under a mile). I could actually feel myself swallowing and inhaling the pollen and pretty soon my chest was hurting. Stopped to drink and take my inhaler. I rode very slowly, at about 8 up the hills on Pope Rd. and my street and I have to admit I walked up my driveway. I have NEVER done this before, but I was toasted.
I still feel bad today and am thinking I may not be able to commute tomorrow.
Robyn - the pollen here is NASTY! I did the NEBC women's ride Tuesday night, and led the fast group. Couldn't breathe. So much crud in the air. We joked on Sunday as we were out on the tandem that the same yellow coating that was on our tires was also on the inside of our lungs...
Since I raced Sat, rode hard Sun, rode to Redbones on Mon and then rode hard on Tues, I was glad it stormed here yesterday - gave me the perfect excuse for not doing the TT. Used it as a rest day instead - have another race coming up on Saturday...
Don't feel bad - Tuesday was a yucky day here. And hopefully, you didn't head out to ride in the rain this morning!

Nope, I didn't ride this morning. I actually got up at 4:30 and put my cycling clothes on. It didn't seem like it was raining, but I was waffling a bit. I was more concerned there might be debris in the road from the storm. Then I decided to make myself a leisurely breakfast of eggs and to to just take a longer ride this afternoon. I feel better, but when i drove in, it was actually raining a bit until I got to Stow. Probably better for me not to breathe in the cool damp air at this point. I should know that when I feel like I did on Tuesday, it's allergies or asthma and that I haven't suddenly lost fitness.
Looks like tomorrow and Saturday are a washout; in a way I am glad. I feel like I'm getting possessed. I will go to the gym tomorrow and maybe take a hike in the rain on Saturday. We are supposed to do a 50 mile ride to Hollis, NH Sunday and I hope that will OK. Two years ago when we did this ride, we had to call a taxi to come get my husband and friend so they could drive the cars to pick us and the bikes up because it was raining and storming like it was yesterday. I spent a long time sitting under the front entrance of the Dunstable Public Library!
