    Truck runs over rider

Pasted this from a post over on BikeJournal....can you believe this ? A picture is sure worth a thousand words. What a testimony to wearing a helmet. Good advertisement for Giro helmets. :-)

Excuse me? They didn't want to call it a hit and run?

Truck runs over bicyclist. Doesn't stop.

    Uhhh, I'd call that a hit-and-run.

Remember folks: all helmets have to meet the same safety standards. Whatever helmet you choose PLEASE WEAR IT FOR EVERY RIDE!!!

I forgot mine the first day I commuted. My Honey had a fit and took her car home at lunch to bring it to me.

    No way.
There is NO WAY a truck ran over his HEAD, and all he got was a concussion. No helmet is THAT tough.
He either got a glancing blow - which granted, a glancing blow from a truck can be pretty intense - or the truck bounced over a curb and rode over his head. Regardless, no styrofoam and plastic helmet is going to hold up under a truck. There is too much squishy stuff underneath (i.e., his head) for that to happen.
That is not to say, of course, that the story wouldn't have had a radically different ending if he weren't wearing his helmet, and he's danged lucky. So, yeah, always wear your helmet.

My uncle ran a pickup truck over my brother's legs and didn't break a bone. Miracles happen.

I heard on another forum that it was a glancing blow.

I always wear a helmet (and I insist my son wears one too). The memories of when I was 6 years old (44 years ago) and severely bashed my head are still quite vivid.

    Holy crap!!!!

Giro needs to offer that young man a pretty penny for that helmet...then build an ad campaign around it.
