    First crash -- ugh

So, went riding this morning with DH and another friend, just a short ride. We were going a way we normally go and friend and I were chatting away, friend on my right, DH a bit behind. DH had said that he wanted to stop in the parking lot we cut through to get to the bike path because his knee was bothering him. As we passed the driveway to this lot, I assumed (stupid me) that we were turning. Friend didn't turn and I did and caught the back of her wheel sending us both off kilter. She wasn't clipped into her pedals (she isn't using those yet) and got her feet down fast, I kind of caught the ground on my right side, but got unclipped and ended up on her back tire/wheel a bit.

I've got some road rash and will be bruised but we finished the ride. I'm more worried about her bike as it is brand new (first ride on it was today, she just got rid of her mountain bike). I am certain the back wheel will need to be readjusted by the bike shop and I've offered to pay if there is any charge. I hope the wheel isn't bent or anything. I feel bad, but this taught me a good lesson -- always pay attention, assume nothing and verbally or with hand signals) communicate every single move you are going to make. I've been riding 3 years and this is the first time something like this has ever happened to me.

well, stuff happens all the time. Keep your distance. I hope her wheel doesn't cost you a fortune!

Sometimes we all crash or fall because of the dumbest things. You are not alone!
Glad no one got badly hurt. Sometimes the little accidents make us turn up our inner alertness level and thus help us prevent bigger accidents.
Hope it all turns out well.

I hope your injuries heal quickly and i am glad no one was seriously hurt. Hopefully your friend's wheel will not cost too much to fix.

First time out riding with my son and I ended up a mass of bruises He would just turn or make a manouevre without warning. After getting his ear chewed a few times from me, he now lets me know what he's doing. If I'm leading I always signal to him as my son is partially deaf and traffic or other noises drown out speech in his hearing aids.

If I'm following him I now keep my distance
There are a lot of unwanted, unloved bikes out there - go on give a bike a good home

Got an email from my friend. She said that the guy at the bike shop righted her wheel in under 5 seconds and didn't even have to use any tools--just adjusted with his hand. I am glad that her bike is fine as I would hate to be responsible for it's first problem/blemish! I will be applying ice to my arm and leg as underneath the road rash is pretty swollen. Thx for all the good thoughts.
