    Unhappy unmotivated day

    need to share ...

I woke-up this AM with plans to do a short ride, shower, and go to work for a few hours. It didn't happen. Windy and gray ... looked like rain ... and the weather report said possible showers. I stayed home, did paperwork, ate, slept, and cleaned a little -- I felt low, tired, and unmotivated. It never rained and I never felt any better all day. If I didn't have something I had to do later that day, I don't think I would have changed clothes and left the house -- I feel like I wasted a whole day of my life! I worry something is wrong with my mind and body because the feeling to just "do nothing" was way too overwhelming today ... I don't want to keep wasting days. So, I ask, do others ever get this way? Or are we always suppose to wake-up and be motivated, no matter what our plans are or aren't?

    thanks for listening ...

I think having these kind of days once in a while is perfectly normal. Even maybe having two or three in a row. Energy levels do fluctuate, and grey "heavy atmosphere" days can make them worse. Best thing to do is eat healthy stuff and get good sleep if possible.

If those days however string into extended periods of days, weeks etc and get worse, please do seek professional help. Getting the occasional blues is normal for everyone, but depression is not a good thing for anyone.. Take it from someone who knows only too well...
Good luck and I hope tomorrow is better for you.

I definitely have days where I feel unmotivated, especially if I've been pushing myself. I usually view them as my body's (or mind's) way of asking for a break or extra rest, and I usually take it. The first few days I had like that were rough. I think I debated with myself all day about whether to ride. I've since gotten better at easing up on myself on those days. Either I don't work out at all, do something completely different or use the time to get other things--like cleaning my house--done.

I am training hard for a tri, and I had a really unmotivated day last week. Just bag the day, and pick it up the next day. It is normal.

another grey day and not overly "enthusiatic" but got some sleep and had a weird dream that involved BIG bikes and heavy winds blowing over the BIG bikes ... well actually they were LITTLE bike frames on REALLY BIG wheels ... woke-up before the "story ended" ... not sure what all that means

anyway, relieved to hear feeling down is normal (you would THINK i would know that) -- although a very odd feeling -- not that i am always up, but feeling so low scared me ... i do have things on my mind and i didn't eat well yesterday because of my "mood", so i think i will put my bike on trainer today because it rained last night and the roads are "yuck" and the skies are grey ... maybe a little activity will get me going again ...
