woo hoo.. first and second 20 miles!

as planned.. i did my first 20 miles on saturday! YAY! we rode around town.. and hubby even led me out onto the highway for a bit!!

then yesterday we did it again! only this time we went on the highway for a looooong time! fortunately we headed east and the traffic in that direction is lighter! we rode and rode.. hubby kept saying we were going to go up to some elusive road and cut over and head back.. finally i stopped and checked distance (i keep cadence and speed on my hrm).. i told him i needed to turn around! the total ride was 21.6 miles!

a couple of things.. i have to tinkle about 1/2 way through! ugh! so both days i made use of mcdonalds! however i guess, when i'm better and we go further out of town.. i'll have to make use of the bushes (no trees since we are in the desert!)

i'm not sure about my whole seat adjustment. i think at first it was tilted down too much. i kept sliding forward. then i think we had it up... cuz i really felt pressure on my.. uhm.. you know...

so now it is as level as we can get it... it still seems to push on my... you know.. but not as much... hubby says to give it time.. it's new rider soreness.. but he is a guy!

sooo any suggestions? or just wait a while like he says?

Congrats on your new distance! Since I got up the courage to venture out of my nice business park, I have really enjoyed riding on the road. I finally got DH (dear hubby) out there and he totally agrees.

lol! i meant wait a while.. as in til we make more adjustments on the seat!

he thinks i'll get used to it eventually and doesn't think it's doing much good to try to move the seat while i'm still sore...

OM Gosh...that is not what I meant about you and your husband. I just thought it was funny that these women were talking about that on a bike ride.

I am going to delete that part of my post. Done!

Congrats on 20! I do 30 in weekends.

I do find having to tinkle an issue.

I ride early a.m. so I usually have tinkled big time, then tinkle a little right before I take off.

I ride alone, you are lucky that you have someone to watch your bike while you run in to McD's.

I have friends who live on my routes, they are my emergency bathrooms, I also ride past my office, so I can run in.

As time goes on, I get better at holding it. I hope you will too.

Congrats on your first long rides. I'm addicted to my 35 mile route! I need to find a similar ride here in Atlanta so I can do it more often.

I have the same problem, and just bought a really small, lightweight lock for tinkle-breaks when I'm alone. It's just enough to deter someone from just riding off with my bike. My DH is usually with me to watch my bike when I need a break, but he's not around for my local rides. Holding it is not a very healthy option - it might cause you not to drink as much as you should, and it could cause a urinary tract infection (I suffer terribly from them) so try to go when you need to.

I still wanna know what the boys on the Tour do when they have to go!

They go right off the bikes. I believe they pull UP the legs of the shorts. Most of them wear bibs, so you can't pull down. They ride on the side of the road where they won't hit another rider, do their business and ride on. Now, as to what they do when they gotta do more serious business that just "pee", I don't know. Don't know if I WANT to know.

I was following the internet live coverage updates during one of the stages last week and they mentioned that a rider had gone off into the woods for a bathroom break. I'm assuming he wasn't doing that just to pee.

One of his teammates waited for him so they could fight their way back to the peloton together. I guess not much different than what happens if someone gets a flat.

Just completely out of morbid curiosity....

When they "ride along the side of the road".... do they stop and get off the bike - or do they manage to pull up a leg and pee mid-pedal????

I have no idea why I want to know this!!

I have a recollection of reading in a magazine during the last TdF that they are supposed to get off the bike to pee, but commonly don't. They technically can be fined but the judges often "'don't see."

Ladies, everything you saw or heard regarding how and where the guys on the tour stop to pee had now been confirmed:
In the new (July 26) issue of Sports Illustrated, there is a picture of a large group of riders by the side of the road, watering the bushes. Seeing IS believing!
