    Beaufort / Lowcountry SC tips?

    Hi everybody -

DBF and I are headed to Beaufort for a relaxing break starting the 21st. But will be riding of course - I'm actually looking forward to some FLAT terrain. Any tips, thoughts, or links on where are some good places to ride? I'm doing a major search and will also post here what I find - which so far, ain't much...

Thanks and happy Friday everybody! :-)

Hey, Cha Cha--How did cycling in/around Beaufort work out for you? We're heading there for Thanksgiving and wondering whether there's good cycling to be found in the area.

We will be there (at Fripp Island) Aug. 18-26. We've been promised a couple of bikes to ride but I don't think they're anything but cruisers... I am planning on running and hiking that week.

Let me know if you found anything, though, because then I might consider renting bikes.

Sorry to be getting to this late. There's lots to do. A local shop does some rides on Lady's Island, but they start up again after labor day. I don't know about rentals around there, though.

There's a group that does some relaxed rides not too far away. Some go from HHI to Beaufort every Sunday. Look up the Coastal Bicycle Touring Club. You can find some cue sheets for some of their rides on the site as well.

There are plenty of rides that happen in the Savannah area.

There's a practice race on Tuesday (8/26) in Nevils, Ga: http://nestorcup.com/schedule.html.

There are Tuesday night macho hammerfests out at the HHI/Savannah Int'l airport on the Jimmy DeLoach Pkwy. 6pm

Wed. nights out in that neighborhood at the Ga Tech satellite campus there is criterium practice. 6pm

Thursdays, groups ride around Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah at 5pm and 6pm.

Saturday (8am) and Sunday (9am), there are rides from the Gallery Espresso coffee shop in downtown Savannah.

I'm usually on horses and not bikes when I go to Beaufort, so my answer isn't that great. The drive to Savannah takes about 45min-1hr from the bridge to Lady's Island. The drive to the other places is shorter.

Just got back from the area. I did not bike much, but ran a lot on Fripp. I did see a lot of folks biking in the Beaufort area. There is plenty to see and do, and I envied them their bikes and freedom!

We used the house bikes which enabled us to bike over to Hunting Island and do some trails there.

I highly recommend a visit to the Penn Center on St. Helena's.

    Beautiful area.
