    Advice on British Columbia

I need some feedback for some friends from those of you in British Columbia.

My neighbors at home #2 are moving to British Columbia in a few weeks. She's got a job that she's excited about. He is a geologist and will seek something when they get there.

She'll work from home mostly. They're low 30's and have no kids, 9 cats, and a dog.

They seem to be leaning toward Ladysmith on Victoria Island.

Is this a good place? Are they missing something?

    Hi Mr. Silver.

I live in BC but I'm in the interior. I've been to Ladysmith though - my car broke down there last March. It's a small town along the east coast of Vancouver Island between the larger cities of Nanaimo and our capital city, Victoria. I guess it might be a nice place to live if you like small towns. It's nice and close to the bigger shopping too, but still a small town. The whole coastal area is beautiful. I don't know what the hosing prices are like compared to where your friends are living right now so that would be something to consider. Also, when living on the Island, you always have the whole "ferry" issue to deal with. That can be a problem for some people, but nothing for others. Depends on how often you want to get to the mainland (ie Vancouver etc).

There's a girl on TE who lives in Victoria. Hopefully she'll give you more info.

Why are they thinking about the Island? Is that where the job is?

What kind of weather do they want? The coast is cool/warm and wet, much like Seattle.

What size town do they want?

    What ammenities?

How much do they want to spend on a home, of what calibur?

    So many things to consider....

That'd probably be me. I'll be happy to answer your questions, Mr Silver....either on this board or by email/PM. Feel free to ask anytime.

LOL, I sat there for 5 minutes trying to remember your name, then gave up. I knew it was Hawaiian or something.

Good work KG and PN that covers most of it.

Hopefully they've looked at the other aspects of moving to Canada - work eligibility requirements, taxation, health care, getting back into the States when they want to. Our border is no longer invisible. A person just has to know all the ins and outs.

Oh, and those cats and dogs will have to have their rabies shots up to date, but I think that's all they'll need. I don't believe there is a required quarantine here in Canada, but who knows what else the governments have spoiled?

    Best of luck to them,
