March 4 Rides

I had an intersting ride today. It was 26 degrees at 8am, when I would have had to leave to go the start for our club ride, and that is just too cold for me. But, I got an email that a subset of club members were going to do it at 11 when it was expected to be in the 50s. So, we went, but only the really fast men (and me) came out, so I thought I would be riding alone. However, early in the ride I got to an intersection of 3 roads (south texas girls will know, its where toutant beuraguard, scenic loop and bourne stage road all meet) and low and behold 3 girls from 3 different starting directions arrived there going the same pace. It was windy, so we were able to work together and had a great ride. Ride start was in 50s, ended in high 60s, bright sunshine. Mimi commented earlier, that a strange thing about south texas is that temperatures can span such a wide range in a single day, imagine going from 26 to 68 in one day! It does make it hard to dress for a commute though. I hope you all had nice rides today too. Its kinda late in the day and no one has started a thread yet.

Early start today...rolling by 5:55 a.m. Was a slow ride, my legs were still aching and I didn't want to push too hard since I have a three hour block of time in which I can ride tomorrow. So...two hours and 30 miles...mostly flat along the coast. The weather was beeeeeeeeeeeeyoooooooooooooootiful!

DH and I put on several layers of clothes and rode 30 miles! It warmed up to 37 degrees with a wind chill of 32! But it felt great to get the bike off the trainer and outside. I just upgraded to all durace. What a difference!

I've got a brevet (hopefully, got my schedule changed and it may affect it), that has a quarter mile of 21% grade (both up and down) , so after church and the weekly checkup with Family, I did Glendora Mountain and Glendora Ridge road to Baldy Village and back down, Like Brandy, it 's gorgeous here. I didn't have to take as many "panting" breaks (well maybe on Glendora Ridge) I surprised myself, as I able to do a lot of it without my granny gear The only Downside was coming home, I wound on street that was being repaved - The City Of Upland had removed all the pavement - so I had to to do an impromptu cycle cross session.
Miles 51.6 - Elevation gain 4800 feet average speed if you have to ask, you don't want to know

15 mile ride on tandem with DH. Today I clipped in and out of my pedals at the same time as he did. I was very tense and scared. At the halfway point, we stopped at our favorite coffeeshop in Leschi, right across from starbucks. We had hot chocolate and I relaxed a little. On the return leg of the trip, I was more relaxed. The last time we clipped out, and got back on to the bike it went beautifully.

Just a tick under 50 miles today with DH. Longest ride in a long time. The weather was great - high clouds, 60's. Started with a bolero over a sleeveless jersey, but took the bolero off after about 20 miles. Had the usual awful headwind on our return trip. But the birds were singing, and bright yellow wild mustard (cover crop) is blooming in all the orchards. The nut and fruit trees are not quite there yet. Saw my first CA poppies of the season.
Lots of animals on this route. Horses, cattle, burros, llamas, alpacas, a couple white herons.

Great ride, but felt like I needed a nap after fighting the wind.
