    Gary Fisher Mullet

I have a low end Gary Fisher Advance right now, and I love the geometry. I'm glad I started out with it because now I know what I want! I want single speed and disc brakes. I had been looking at the Gary Fisher Rig, but making the mullet into a single speed is apparently new. I'd like to use this bike for rail trails, single track, and also the 1.2 mile commute to school. Right now I have three bikes, a road bike, (Jamis Quest) Trek 7.2fx that I use for errands around town, and the Advance. I think I can get rid of the Trek AND the Advance and use this for errands also since I'm not riding over 5 miles at a whack when I run to stores, and I want to ride trails on weekends. I know it will be tougher than the Trek, but that's okay. I have a Motobecane Mixte that I'm going to make into a commuter this spring/summer anyway.

Am I crazy to use this bike for short commutes also? Anyone have any experience with it? I'm sold on the Gary Fisher mountain bikes, though. My Advance, even though it was inexpensive, is a great bike! I just really want disc brakes and single speed now...

I personally think the Mullet would be over kill. The frame is extremely reinforced for jumps. I sell this bike, and I completely believe it is a terrific bike; however, I wouldn't sell it for the purpose you are wanting to use it. If you are looking for a single speed, I'd say go with the Rig.

Thanks bikemom! That's what I wanted to hear. The Rig is $1000+, and I've wanted one for awhile, but the Mullet was half the price! I should just wait and save and get what I want.

By the way, it was really terrific meeting you at the St. Louis Swap Meet! I look forward to getting in on some of those rides you were talking about. I just have to get caught up on email, housework, and all the rest!
