    28 January

hey, it was freeZing and i went out! I rode all of 7 miles but i even saw Ice.
we have had this fog appear this morning, before the sun came out, so the temp dropped at dawn .
I rode down to Seward Park, locked my bike with two cable locks (a latte lock and a much more substantial one) and then met a friend for a walk around the park (2.5 miles) then I rode back up the hill and met some friends on a tandem
    and went home.

    warm now

I feel lucky that it went up to 35F today with a bit of sun. The roads were wet but clear, and DH and I got in a nice 21 mile 2 hour ride after breakfast with lots of medium hills. Got to add it to my Bikejournal TE total! We also walked a mile back and forth to breakfast. So good to get off my butt and remind my leg muscles to please not waste away completely just yet.
Pretty bizarre to be able to ride at the end of January in upstate NY.

And to top off the weirdness- we STILL have not gotten any "real" snowfall yet. Only an inch or so at a time, which then melts off the next day to nothing again. I've never seen a winter like it here.

You ladies are both braver than me!

I got my new Specialized put together yesterday (Sat.) and I will ready to ride today (Sunday).

The sun was out... BBBUUUTTTT... at 9:30 AM it was 32 with a wind chill of 22.

Wind and cold? No thanks. So I went to run some errands instead. I appauld BOTH of you for riding in cold weather!

I got in 37.98 miles in 48 degree weather. Quite a few hills. I was layered to the MAX but I did it!

It took the following to make the ride:
    Bacaclava
    Long Finger gloves
    Shorts
    Thermal Tights over shorts
    Arm Warmers
    Sports Bra
    Compression Base Top
    Jersey
    Wool Socks
    Toe Warmers

Yup I am a wimp when it dips below 60!

I also learned it is possible to stay upright and make it up a steep hill at 3.6 mph!

No, *I* am a wimp when it dips below 60! I opted to stay indoors and try out my new 1upUSA trainer. I got in 55 minutes in my 2007 cardio-improvement program.

Good job, Aggie_Ama, MimiTabby, Lisa, and anyone else who braved the chillier temps!

I was HARD CORE today and rode 12 miles or so all told to get to church and the bike co-op meeting, which I went to instead of the "ride" part of our bike club's annual "Darwin Ride" (are you strong enough to survive a ride in January... or intelligent enouigh not to go?) ... and then rode out to the pot luck, which was further than the 2.4 miles that they went for the ride.
Temperature ranged from 7 to 15 degrees (F) and winds from 19 to 25 mph. Four layers... on that first trip to church I thought "It's finally so cold I'm not warming up my hands..." because they were hurtin' but at the next stop light everything but my pinky warmed up.
(Longest stretch at one time was prob'ly about 3 miles - so not *that* hard core, folks!!! Though that 3 miles took a while into the wind... but I worked it hard with the "breathing hard is *good*! philosophy that hopefully will translate into a few seconds more whittled from that time trial time...)

Aggie, you are not such a weather wimp! At 35F today, I wore TWO of everything one thing you mention above! But I was warm!
And as to 3.6mph hills...I often note that I am climbing steep hills at about 2.5 mph. My overall average is only about 10 mph because of all the hills around here. But give me a long steep downhill and I can go 36mph! Unfortunately it only takes one minute to go down that long hill at 35mph, but maybe 10 minutes at 5mph to get back up it...hence my low "average" speed!

hee hee. There were a lot of stretches today that I was doing about 3.5 mph. As long as you're moving fast enough so you don't tip over, it's all good.

Yep V., I'm thinking I really can climb Sierra.
It might be at about 2-3 mph, but I can dooooo it.

2.5 mph? I don't think my balance is nearly as good as yours! DH said to me "How do you know you can't go slower that 3.6 mph?" I replied "I was zig-zagging all over the place and about to unclip!" I was not about to fall over on my bike that barely has 100 miles on it.

Hills, that is what we have here too! Not really rollers, just steep ones that pop up when you turn a corner. I managed to average 13.9 yesterday because of this nice long false flat, that was downhill. I was rolling along in my big ring at 18+ mph.
