The REAL reason I got a Rivendell

How many 20 pound bikes with 23 mm tires would you be willing to ride on a fire road?

We did a little exploring on our way home, trying to find ways avoid the endless strip malls and discovered this. It really didn't answer the question of how to get around the malls, but it was fun riding.

Yes, on a Rivendell you don't have to stay on paved roads- most of our rides include some really ROCKY backwoods gravel roads. Those are some of the prettiest routes. I presently have pretty wide tires on my Riv road bike (wanted them while I was getting my "sea legs"), but I'm planning to change to 25's or 28's soon. Must be well over 1000 miles so far over all kinds of roads (even across some fields in the tractor ruts) and no flats.
I love that Rivendells are made to handle pretty much whatever you set them up to.

Nice Rivendell. I also wanted to have more options for tires and racks ect. that is why I wanted a Bleriot.

Nice, the photo and idea reminds me of those SUV ads where traffic is at a standstill so driver heads up off the road....only this is soooooooo much better.

See, I took that to mean that you wouldn't do it on a 20lb. bike with 23mm tires, but you would on a XXlb bike with XXmm tires, like yours is. Silly me.

Ah... gotcha! Nope that's my new Legolas, as sturdy as it is pretty.

Of course to be honest, I did not bomb down the hills like I would on my mountain bike and we turned back when the road went down a hill that was pretty steep and loosely packed. But it was fun!
