Finally a lovely day, cloudless blue sky, Fall colors, barely a breeze. I'm pretty much over my bronchitis, no appointments before 9, only 1 overstuffed backpack full of stuff to haul ... Finally I was going to bike to work on RubySlipperz. Soooo ... change of clothes, check. Shampoo and brush, check. Layered up for 40 F (going up to 60 later in the day), check. Unlock the bike and ... ok, so the LBS put the seat way up in the stratosphere, thinking like a roadie that the seat should be that much higher than the handlebars. No big deal. Back inside, find the tool kit, find the right size allen wrench, adjust the seat. NOW ready to go. But what's with the pedals? Wierd that they spring back on their own when I try to spin them forward into mounting position. But I manage somehow, get on, clip in right foot, and off I go ... for one (1) half (1/2) pedal revolution. Clank! Pedal won't spin forward. Luckily I hadn't clipped in my other foot yet. Off the bike. Back in the house. Get the car keys. Load Ruby into the back of the van. I'll have to stop at the LBS on my way home and register a complaint. Weren't they supposed to get it right? Wasn't that why several of you experienced gals advised me to take her to the LBS for remantling after the shipment finally arrived? I got the Old Grey Mare put back together right first try when she was shipped back from CA after the Cinderella ride. It really isn't all that complicated. But they must've got SOMETHING put together seriously a**-backwards at the LBS this time. Aaaaargh!
Felt good to be back on Ruby those few dozen yards, though. She's so light, smooth, and fast a ride.Let's hope the LBS can fix their bad right away on my way home tonight so I can ride her tomorrow.

Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.

bummer duck! is there any frustration worse than being all ready to ride and not being able to

"Baby" son (23, 6'6") wanted to borrow the car to go bouldering after class. So he biked up to my campus, stopping off at home to pick up a pair of shoes for me and planning to drop my bike off at the LBS on his way to the cliffs of H*ll. But hearing what had happened he thought it sounded familiar. It'd happened to him before. Loose gear wire. He tightened it, straightened out the chain, rode my bike around the parking lot shifting up and down a bit. Took him just a few minutes, then he called me on my cell phone and asked where I wanted him to park the repaired bike. Now I'm off to ride her home.
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.
