Online mapping sites

I have tried numerous websites that allow you to do online mapping of bike routes but have yet to find one that works consistently in Canada. Anyone has any suggestions?

So far I have tried.

No idea about Canada or not, but seems to work well in the US and the guy seems to be doing a nice job keeping it updated.

I tried that one a while back and couldn't get it to work for me. Tried again and managed to create and save a route. The mileage was correct but the climbing part said 5500 m which is not accurate. I really want one that can show the elevation map and if possible, say how much the total climb was.

The climbing is not accurate on any of the sites that I am aware of. It is a function of the data being fed to the site from wherever all these programmers get it. You really have to ride the route with an altimeter or GPS to get an accurae number.

Two different users can enter the same routes and have different total climbing just depending on the number of waypoints they enter.

I've had very good luck with routeslip since they guy is upgrading it steadily. Unfortunately, the site has become so popular it's outgrown the server. They need sponsors. Maybe TE?

One of the problems with elevation IMHO is the datapoints. With the mapping programs they all use, the elevation from point A to point B is extrapolated linearly. Try adding more points and you'll get a more accurate elevation profile. But, I don't know that you'll ever be able to add enough points to get an accurate profile.

But, I'd have to add a datapoint about every .001 of a mile on the routes I've been mapping and then I'd blow up the system.
