    Talking New to ROAD....yes i said road

    Ok, so a few people on here know me...i am a fairly new mountian biker with a specialized hardrock sport...pic link below...well DH had his first race this weekend...didnt do too bad. but we got to talking on the ride back home and some how got on the topic of road bikes. so he said why dont you ask a few questions and just see...well...i have a friend who is triathlete and i was talking with her today...she said starting in october she would be more than happy to help me get started and teach me some road stuff, IF i had a road bike. well, i told DH about this. so we got to looking online. long story short....he bought me one tonight !! it is a schwinn varsity....yeah it is from walmart, but i am only getting started and the mountian bike we just got also, so the cheap but funcitional works at the moment....so I am about to be both a roadie and a mountian biker!! I am EXCITIED!!! WHOOOOHOOOOO!

    Sandy, that is fantastic! I'm so excited for you. You will find that you love both types of riding for different reasons. BTW, I didn't see the link you were referring too.

    Sandy I have owned my Specialized Hardrock over 12 years ago when I was in college (pre front shox days). The thing is indestructable. I am even still on the original tires, impressive if you know that they've not be stored in nice ways all the time. The only maintenance I had to do was replace a rusty chain/tune up when I decided I should start using it again a few years ago. I don't take it out as much as I should, and I can swear I hear it muttering "taking the dainty new one out again huh, well I am TOUGH what about that?" when I pass it in favor of the road bike.

    I do have a fondness for it being so reliable....

    Enjoy your new bikes - just get out and ride them, they get lonely. Trust me (see the muttering part).
