They can get quite large. They don't necessarily have to be "gotten rid of" but generally have to be drained. It might be that if you went to the doc before it got too bad, you could get on some antibiotics and take care of it before it gets worse!

Mine was "chronically infected" which is what is happening when it puffs up due to riding... my doc said they will not go away on their own... sent me to a surgeon (and I got lucky cause he and his staff ALL ride!!!) who said, yep, gotta take it out...

That may be why mine finally started rupturing.
