I just set up a little spreadsheet (for AG) comparing this methodology to the one used by Arnie Baker in Bicycling Medicine. Of course, it is anecdotal based on a statistic of one (me) but it seems more accurate and useful. It gives a min and max calories per hour needed during a ride based on how quickly your stomach can absorb nutrients.
