What's the best way to use a camelbak?

OK, so I'm not exactly a new rider--I'm more of a re-newing rider. But I'm totally new at using a camelbak and got my new Dream in the mail today, and I'm not quite sure of the best way to route the tube and valve.

I mean, it's pretty obvious that it's worn like a backpack, but what's the best way to route/use the valve? Do I just stick it in that little clip so it's pointing down, then pull it upward toward my mouth when I want to drink? Or is it possible or better to put it in the clip so it's already pointing upward toward my mouth? I'm so confused. I've seen people wearing them but never paid attention to the what they were doing with the tube and valve. A little help?

At the top of the pack, where the strap begins, there's an opening. I route the tube through that so that it follows the direction of the strap and hangs over the front of my shoulder. That way it's easy to grab with either hand to lift to my mouth. When I go down into the drops, I then attach the tube to the little clip on the strap to keep it out of the way.

Dunno if that's what most folks do, but it works for me.

Thanks, Kali. As it turns out, it was pretty idiot-proof (good thing ) once I took a closer look. Used it this morning and it was great.

I have to stuff a little extra of the tube in the zippered part, otherwise its too long and hits my leg. Over the strap I put it in the clip so it is pointing down. My father in law somehow manages to loop his back up through the clip so its pointing up. I tried this, but mine won't stay. Mine is really old (~'99 vintage) so maybe they re-designed the clips??? But it sounds like you got it working anyhow. I love the camel back for long rides, and I think its easier to drink out of while riding than reaching for the bottle.
The best part about going up hills is riding back down!
