We are almost home (last night on the road) from a week camping at Rocky Mountain National Park -- our idea of heaven on earth!
FYI -- we were driving up Old Fall River Road, the dirt/gravel road that was replaced in 1932, to the Alpine Visitor Center which is up in the tundra. (GRADE: The road climbed to Fall River Pass on steep grades sometimes reaching 16%. Some early automobiles had to climb in reverse due to their weak engines and gravity-fed fuel system.)
So here we are stopped to walk down to a waterfall and what should pass by but --
Whoa. Old Fall River Road starts around 9,000 ft and the highest point is 12,183!
Oh, and at a later stop we saw:
So, how does this compare to the Tour de France?
Of course we did see cyclists all over the park, and all over Colorado, for that matter!
