    Hi!

I'm new to cycling and I'd REALLY like to participate in some sort of fundraising ride for breast cancer. I have a younger sister who is doing great now--but was diagnosed six years ago with very aggressive breast cancer. I really like the Team in Training concept and I'm considering that, also, as my stepmother is battlng multiple myeloma. Any tips? I live in the central FL area. How can I find info on events in my area?

    Thanks!

    Nancy in Central FL

    Team In Training

Years ago, I helped coach some Team in Training Rides in California when Cindy Olivari was just starting up the program. I have not been involved with this program since leaving California, But, you can go to www.teamintraining.org and they have a contact area where you can find out about training in your area.

    Luck to you.

    Nancy,

If you want to come up to Atlanta, my bike club is providing bicycle support for the Komen 3-Day Walk. We're still looking for folks to register - just sign up as 'Crew', and once registered, say that you want to be on the road support team.

You have to commit to all FOUR days - the three days of the walk and the Thursday before for training and coordination. It's in October.

Pedal Wench - If you sign up as crew, do you get to ride all day? That sounds like fun. When is it? Do you have more information?

    nancy,

Let me look into this more, there's gotta be a ride near you. Of course you could always come out west for Bike Against the Odds in September.

Tempting, tempting! I won't be able to make it this October but I will keep it in mind for next year. I know that my sister and others in her situation have been helped so much by the work the Komen Foundation does.

Thanks to everyone for your recommendations--it only seems right to use what God's given me (the joy and fun of biking and the ability to do it) to help others!

The 3-Day is in Atlanta, October 20-22, but we'll need to be there on Thursday, October 19th as well. We'll be riding as support all day - as long as there are walkers out on the course. At night, we'll be staying at the same location as the walkers, but I think crew has a seperate area for tents. It costs $90, but this covers our tents, meals for all three days, and all the same amenities as the walkers - support, SAG, etc.

Go to www.3-day.com for more info, and I think there's a section for 'Crew'.

What? Blinds need charity ride too? Maybe a ride for the blind? Just kidding - what a difference a hyphen makes!

Try this: www.3-day.com I'll edit the earlier post
