    Biking and, well, SWEAT!

    To disable ads, please log-in.

Okay, I'm one of those women who doesn't glow, or prespire - I SWEAT! My biggest problem these days, since the weather is hotter and more humid, is the sweat that runs down my forehead into my eyes. OUCH! Today's ride was a public group ride (kids, adults, etc.) and when I was done and enjoying my post ride banana, there was so much sweat in my eyes that I started to cry! My helmet doesn't really have any kind of sweat band in the front (my son's does, however!). What do you all do for this problem? Or am I the only one?

    Thanks so much!

Yes, I do get sweat running into my eyes, and it burns a bit, definitely uncomfortable. What I did on my longish rides was to wear a kind of sweat band thingy under my helmet. On one ride when it was kinda cold, I wore this thing like a scarf for both sweat wicking and warmth. Last time I wore it the weather was hot and muggy, so I rolled it up to the width of a sweat band and wore it just below the edge of my helmet. I got it at REI. It's called "Buff". Comes in many colors and patterns. Oh, and extra benefit ... you can unroll it into a scarf style and cover the "helmet hair" when you stop for a coffee break.

    sweat monster like my sister.

mostly I just...well...sweat, wipe it off with back of the glove.

But if it's hot a simple headband's good, I like the coolmax like

    http://www.teamestrogen.com/products.asp?pID=20881

or the terrycloth band type which I get at LBS, cheaper, more absorbant but they don't wick.

So if it's hot...then cold it's like a soaked towel around your head

My problem is glasses which they feel like they will fly off so I wear those sportsband things, hold them on.

I got stinging sweaty eye this morning on my ride. was wondering what people did about it and tada this thread!
The scarf thing you can put over your hair too sounds great. I think I'm just going to try a bandana tomorrow.. We're riding to breakfast. It's no where fancy but I'm pretty sure I haven't seen any other sweaty wild haired people in there before. I'm guessing I still won't blend in wearing biking clothes, carrying a helmet, and wearing a neon orange bananda on my head. Now that I think about it I sort of feel like an elephant painting my nails red so I can hide in a strawberry patch. Oh well. I am a cyclist now I guess I'll be sweaty and wild haired, but pretty soon I'm going to have some awesome legs oh yes indeedy that is comforting. and now I have ideas about sweat coralling.

You can see the Buff, even a video of umpteen ways to wear it, at http://www.rei.com/online/store/Prod...cat=REI_SEARCH

The model looks pretty wild-haired, and yet ever so fashionable.

    buff

As Bikeless, I use buff in the cooler months and it keeps me cozy. I tried wearing it during the Australian summer (or what we had of it..) but if it went above 30c on my riding days i overheated and became annoyed..

So, on the v hot days i used my ground effect head bandy thingie...and for cooler days i used the buff thing.

I sweat and get rather annoyed at it dripping onto my glasses as they then fog up...Not much fun when going downhill over rocks n stuff...

I've been wearing my Buffs year 'round here in the Washington, DC area (we have extremely hot/humid summers) and they are great at sweat absorption.

I learned a trick many years ago for keeping sunscreen from sliding off of my forehead into my eyes - also caused by sweating. Maybe this will work for you too. I put lip balm on my eye brows, and it helps prevent sweat from sliding into my eyes.

    Hope this helps you too!

Similar to what Denise says, I've heard that if you put KY jelly over your eyebrows, sweat can't get through.

I use cycling caps or a headband, though I've found recently that the caps do a better job of keeping the sweat out of my eyes without overheating my head like a headband can.

Several of my friends & I use Headsweats year-round ... they have a sweatband sewn in at the bottom & are made out of Coolmax material which helps wick away the sweat. I also have one of their hats for running or after riding ... works really well!

Thank you all for your suggestions! I'm going to look at all of those things (headbands, etc.) and see what just might work for me. It isn't REAL bad until I stop....then it runs in my eyes and I cry

Okay, I'm off to go biking, my favorite thing, with my dear husband! Gotta get at least 20 miles in today before the sun goes down!!

I have the Headsweats headband (and their hats) and several Buffs. The Buffs are great - so versatile! Cold weather, warm weather, whatever you want. I have also used bandanas of various colors, which are ok, but not very wicking.

I am also a fan of the Halo headbands, which they carry at REI:

For some reason, I don't like the idea of something covering the top of my head in the summertime - I like to get as much air flow as possible there.

I like the halo headbands. Of course, I usually don't have to worry about cold rides,

I love, love, love the Halo headbands. They have that little strip that keeps it from slipping down.
