Cycling Addiction - You know when...

    To disable ads, please log-in.

You know you are addicted to cycling when you decide to head out to ride for an hour even though you know it will make you late for church....because there will be wind-gusts of 45 mph that afternoon and the wind cut short yesterday's ride.

We battled the wind yesterday anyway. Enjoy your ride this morning, Catrin. It's pretty calm right now but that's gonna change later. Smart of you to get it in this morning. Just slip in the back and maybe no one will notice you were late!

I am currently debating the same thing myself. Supposed to be very windy here later today. But I am on-call with the hospital right now until 8 a.m. Monday. Do I risk it? Decisions, decisions.

Nice hour-long ride short, but better than nothing! I DID hit my country roads yesterday, but could only tolerate the winds for 27 minutes of so - AVERAGE heart rate was 145 and even got an upset stomach! Rested a few minutes and took my bike back to the "beautiful treadmill" that has great wind breaks (a local nature-preserve park) and got in another 45 minutes or so.

WestTexas - I can't advise - but I am sure that you will make the best decision.

Did something similar here-- I almost always bike to church (it's only 1.5 miles away). With the winds pretty mild in the morning but predicted to really pick up in the afternoon, I took a long, scenic route to church (not all that long, just 7 miles or so). And then I had strong tailwinds pushing me home after church.

But now the winds aren't all that bad after all, and I'm thinking of a little trip out on the bike path.

I have an apres velo "true religion" biking t shirt and on the back in the list of rules for bikers is "never miss the Sunday sermon or long Sunday ride."

It was very windy here today so I wussed out and did a trainer session instead. Since my trainer is located in the garage, I moved it out onto the driveway and rode in the wind anyway, which since it was also about 80 but with 97 % humidity, ended up being very refreshing.

I fear however that I have further confirmed the neighbors image of me as a certified "weirdo" because I waved at them cheerfully while singing "lucy in the skies with diamonds" at the top of my voice as they drove past on their way to church. Besides "I dress funny."

I feel like a slug. We got out last weekend when it was 40F degrees and windy, making it feel colder, but all this week I was busy with work stuff and didn't get out at all during the week.

Yesterday we took a friend looking for a new bike and now I think I tweaked my quad yesterday "playing" around when it was cold. I should have known better, but as of today I can barely walk and it's really painful to descend stairs, plus the muscle feels all knotted up and tight and really tender above my knee. I didn't feel it tighten yesterday at all or feel any discomfort at all.

I'm on the shelf until this leg feels better
