Yay! I'm back on the road.

First I took UK Elephant with me to spin class this morning. That gave her a chance to
    - practice clipping and unclipping, and
    - check how her new shoes fit through an hour of pedalling. If they hadn't fit, she could still return them. Last chance today, tho. Luckily, all went well.

Then UK took the car to do some shopping, so I took the bike out to do mine. Rode to the hospital and back to get some prescriptions filled and check on my appointments. Made it up most of the hills. First one I clicked my way down a gear at a time, made it to the top, stayed in a low gear as I caught my breath, then peeked to see where I was at gearwise ... I'd left the front gear in 3! No wonder I was out of breath! The rest were easier but for two, one where I hit a stop light halfway up the hill and one steepish hill on the way home. I walked the tops of those, but I still had plenty of gears left (hadn't shifted down to 1 yet on the front) so I prob'ly could have sat them out if I'd been more determined. Anyways ... all in all about 10 miles. So now that the weather is ok and my bike is back, it should be no problem commuting on days I'm going to the office (6 miles each way). And a longer ride on weekends
Half-marathon over. Sabbatical year over. It's back to "sacking shirt and oat cakes" as they say here.

Did 42 miles broken up a bit. Commuted to work (10 miles) then took a ride down the south lakefront path and back (22 miles) before going home (another 10 miles). It was a nice day, a bit cool still with an East wind off the cool lake waters. That gave me a nice tailwind coming home though I rode through the shady part of town again today to get to work, as I was in a hurry. Saw a guy carrying a garbage bag full of Kool cigarettes. I also noticed a new type of road kill - pancake rats. Ah, the city.

    Talking lazy me

it was raining monday morning so i did not bike to work.
when i got home it was barely raining so I did some loops in the neighborhood
for 3 miles. Since there is nowhere I can go without hitting hills my neighborhood is a good workout. If I went a little further, it would have been a great workout (more hills) but I didn't want to get completely wet.

I rode to the dentist's office for the twice-yearly ordeal. I'd never done that before, so my routing was a bit odd, but hey, I got there on time.

I was the talk of the office for a while, too. Obviously, not too many people bike there.

On the way back, I found a much better route

A tiny bit more of my city has just opened up to me and my bike.

Biked just over 15 miles at lunch today (I'm pretty sure) but I had to come in when I did because I'd forgotten my HRM and I had no idea what time it was! It was a GORGEOUS day...72 degrees and crystal clear with only a slight wind.

I miss biking with the group at work (my schedule just hasn't matched up lately) but it is nice to 'get away' like that on my own every once in awhile.

Five miles to trail. Five miles up. Five miles down. Five miles home. And a muddy mess because it rained all day yesterday.
