    So Tired....

I knew this weekend would be a quiet one, riding-wise. It's my daughter's 10th birthday tomorrow, and we did a whole skating party thing yesterday, etc. It was basically her weekend.

What I did NOT count on was being up ALL night with Em as she finally succumbed to the horrible stomach flu that's been going around school. Poor thing - I felt so sad for her. She had her twin cousins over for a sleep over, and she ends up in our bathroom all night throwing up. Part of the night I was on the floor with the dog while she was in my bed with DH. The dog liked that.

(And of course I'm sure hoping the cousins don't get it - and there's part of me that's also terrified that maybe I get it right before or during the Solvang double.)

Anyway, she had a very quiet day and is having some soup now and she will probably stay home (thank heaven for grandma) tomorrow. I did an easy 50 mile loop, during which I felt kind of nauseated, but its probably in my head!! Anyway, we all hope to get a lot more sleep tonight.

Not exactly a training update, but more of a "I didn't train this weekend" update! Oh well.

I had 4 - 6 students out every day this past week. I'm praying I don't get whatever they all had. Fifth graders are so gross. They sneeze into their sleeves.

Hope you have a restful week.

I think I work out too much to get sick. I have no scientific data to prove this of course. But I think working out scares germs away. My body is not a hospitable place I guess.

Ah, the luxury of being childless and having no local friends with children. I can become a cranky old lady in good health.

Ok, that didn't express my sympathy even though I am. Everyone with children (including teachers) gets my sympathy.

No veronica... You just have built up immunity.. Kinda like when we travel south of the border and instantly get the trots from water that the locals drink everyday w/ no problem... teachers by nature have immune systems of STEEL!

I had the same kind of weekend. My youngest came from home from school on Thursday and then puked every 30 minutes until 2:30am. Then my other two got it at the same time. Can you tell what my weekend was like.

I have been saying this for years and my husband and other don't believe me. I know since I have been cycling on a regular basis, barely get sick and I say that maybe it is because I am sweating the germs out of me or something. Now since I am just typing this and not saying it out loud, I hope I did not just jinx myself.

Oh my gosh - so sorry! And bouncing it around all of them! (This is why I had only one kid).

OMG - you could be talking about my house. Last week my youngest started puking and he was so sick it took all week for him to get over it. So here we are all feeling pretty healthy and happy again and then 2.30 this morning my middle boy get up and vomits all over the bathroom (didnt quite make it to the toilet) so Im up washing floors and holding the bucket. Two down, one to go. My poor oldest went off to school saying I sure hope Im not next. Its not looking good, odds on he will be next.

Lucky for me I never seem to pick up the kids bugs but my husband he is another story.

I probably should not post this, but so far we have not gotten the barfy bug this year. It, however, kept me from doing the Tierra Bella last year when the two little ones started barfing at 2:30 the night before. The 5 year old (at that point) already had it. That was a bad week and a half, I tell you.

Same here, knocking on wood frantically, and my husband always seems to get it the worst. I've washed my hands so much they are red and chappped. My oldest actually said thank you tonight for taking care of him. How sweet is that coming from a 15yr old boy!

    Veronica,

I bet if you look back to your first year of teaching you may remember you came down with everything the kids did. As a teacher(I'm a school nurse) you'll find you have a pretty strong immune system. Cycling just strengthens it!!

BTW, I'm one of those sending home the sick kids left and right. It can be pretty hecitc in my office when you have 7-9 puking kids trying to use one bathroom. And waiting for parents to come get those kids!! ARRRGGHH!! Or when they send those kids to school already sick. Sure gets my hackles up!!!!

    Everyone stay well and healthly!!

    What's a school nurse?

    Gawd, California's education system sucks!

My newest student arrived from El salvador two weeks ago. Speaks not a word of English. I can read Spanish (years of Latin and French), but speak it or comprehend when it's spoken?!

Explain to me how I'm suppose to teach her about positive and negative integers and using data to construct an equation, which she'll then plot on a coordinate grid. Yeah - that's what I was teaching my class when she arrived. And yes it is a 5th grade standard according to some idiot who works for the government.

Luckily she's a sweet girl and we're muddling along. I have a bilingual student who acts as translator. They both enjoy my awful attempts at Spanish.
