The Good, the Bad and the Ugly-follow up

After Friday's incident of a car throwing a golf ball size rock at my face, and me swerving into a deep rumble strip, losing control and crashing, I am pretty much recovered. My face still looks like a pound of semi cooked hamburger, but between the antibiotic ointment and skin cream it is starting to dry out, crust over and scab off. My eye in pretty much unswollen although it is all sorts of colors from wine red to mustard yellow and the other eye is looking a bit red and swollen in sympathy. I have been to the gym twice, both times with moderate cardio and have had no ill effects so tomorrow I will go see the trainer and do some gentle and easy weight and resistance.

Another small bit of good news is that my expensive prescription glasses which got badly scraped and scratched when I face planted are still undewr warranty so all I will owe is the shipping.

The really bad news is that although the bike frame itself is ok, lots of other things are toast. I will need new aero bars, bar tape, wheels and tires, chain, cable and brake pads plus three weeks of repair time, thanks to the fact that all of the bike shops in Houston are already slammed with bikes being prepped for the MS 150 which happens in APRIL (LAST YEAR IT HAD 14,000 RIDERS and it looks to grow again this year.) so it's going to take a while and cost between 700 and 1000 dolars depending on whether or not I decide to go with the better wheels and a rental bike.

I have been saving for several years to buy myslef a new Madone for my 65th birthday and this will take a big bite out of the fund.

But at least the glasses are still under wararnty and I am healing. The rest is what it is. Come whatever, I am definitely doing the Little Red Riding Hood with my three sisters in June!!!

Glad you're healing so fast, but ouch re the bike. I guess it could be worse, but........
