    I beat my hill!

It's not a big hill, more of a long steady hill, but I couldn't do it without stopping once to take a breather. Well, the other day - I was really anxious about finishing my ride in time to pick up my son from school and I really focused on preparing for it and staying positive and using all of the tips I've picked up from these posts and "Voila!" I went up and over. It was a big milestone for me!

Now I need to find a new hill to beat!

    Great job Cari!!

I will use this as inspiration to beat this nasty hill that shows up on the last third of my mtn bike park loop...I am still at 1/4 ride, 1/4 walk, 1/4 ride, walk the rest....unfortunately the riding part is flatter than the walking parts!

Arghhh!! It's great to beat the hill, isn't it??

You rock!!! Keep the focus :-) I admire new riders dealing with hills! It's so easy on the prairie.

    You go, Cari!

Way to go, Cari! I've found with hill-climbing, especially if you're on a long and steady climb, just concentrating on tempo (and not the pain) can make all the difference. But of course, with the insanely steep ones, you just need to get up it, however you can.

Incidentally, I found a new hill (yep, insanely steep... ) to conquer on my ride up in 'da hills yesterday. This hill will be the gauge of my fitness for the year, I think. Owwie! Today, I'm soooo sore! It's all good....

Congrats again, Cari...and keep at it!

Way to go. I've picked out a hill to master. Hope soon I'll be able to say I did. Thanks for the inspiration

Great work! I think of it as "having the hill" instead of being "had by" the hill!

Hey Cari! What hill did you make it up? I live in your area and like to ride in Morgan Hill a lot. I have some benchmark hills out around the reservoirs, myself.

Congrats on making your hill. You're doing great!

    Hills in the South Bay

I kind of stick to a mantra of "slow and steady" which for me, make all the hills feel fine. Everyone tells you to live in the moment and enjoy the now, and when you're on a hill climb, its the perfect time to reflect.....not too sound to Californian/granola-crunchin/yoga-lovin or anything.

I'm going to try Page Mill this week and understand its an 8 mile climb. I'll let you know if I like it. We love Kings Mountain, which I believe is about 4 miles of climbing and pretty relaxing.

Would love other ideas for training.....Cheers,

Aint it a GREAT feeling to conquer something like this!!!

I still remember how SUPER I felt when I finally cycled the whole way up a hill that I had always had to stop once or twice on... albeit only at 4.8 - 5.2km/hour most of the way...

    Well done

    Love long, ride hard
